The old education system in new-era
RSAnimate’s video (Ken Robinson) on ‘public education’ encourages us to think about the current education system. It acknowledges the current education system and its roots. The current education system was developed during the Industrial Revolution. So, education had something to do with resolving contemporary and mostly industrial issues. Now, the world has shifted from an industrial position to a technological position. Politically, the world is becoming a small village. Technology is boosting the changes. The world has become more dynamic, and things are changing very fast.
If economic systems are improved and political systems are changed, it will be apparent to assume that the education system needs to be reformed. Of course, the public education system is in this process. However, the question is – was there any strategic drift? If there is a drift, it needs a transformation in the system. If not, it should not be a matter to worry as small changes keep pace.
Considering the education system of the 21st Century, it has become confusing whether the education system should be reformed or transformed. How does a system developed for one context fulfil the purpose in another context? The answer could be diverse, but it has made me stop worrying and start thinking.
